I'm a Dreamer
I always have been a dreamer for the longest time. I don't know where it comes from, but my inner being just gravitates towards doing certain things and it's all I can think about. If people prevent me from living my dream, I don't listen to them and push myself harder. I have few dreams in life, and I hope that I can fulfill most of them.
I remember many years ago, I told my mom that I wanted to go to college and work for Apple some day. To this day, I still remember what she told me in our old beat-down car. She said, "Don't dream big." That moment crushed my heart and made me depressed. While I see her point-of-view, she's not a dreamer like me. Nor are a lot of people. The world has hit them hard and discouraged them and so will forevermore try to just "get by." When people call me crazy, I don't listen to them. It only pushes me harder to be the best and achieve my dreams more. Maybe people have goals to achieve, but they only strive to make tiny adjustments in their life.
"I want to lose 20 pounds this year." or "I'm going to budget more this year" are two examples of easily-achievable goals. But what about moving to a different state and experiencing culture there, and going places to expand your mind? Why settle for being in one spot? There is so much to see in this huge world of ours, and I want to see it. Some people might think that once you become an adult, you have to "mature" and throw away the "imaginations" of a child, but it's just not true. This is the time when I should be traveling!
I also have had another thought. A woman I had feelings for told me four years ago that she didn't want to date me because she would be holding me back. While I didn't understand her then, it was until recently that I started fitting the puzzle in my mind. For the longest time, I was upset that I wasn't connecting with a woman in a way that was romantic. I would try hanging out with different women throughout the years, but nothing really clicked. Today, I had the revelation that not only was I not supposed to be in a relationship, but with my personality, a relationship would suppress my dreams.
If I dated somebody and things got serious, I would give anything to make my partner's dreams come true. I would willingly sacrifice my happiness and dreams for theirs. While this is considered a wonderful mindset to have, I would have never been able to fulfill the things I wanted to do. As I look back at my past relationships, I'm glad it didn't work out with these women. I am actually grateful for them, and am glad that they are still my friends. So the dreams of mine are limited, but I'm all in. Here are some of my dreams. If you ever talk to me and call me crazy for having these dreams, don't limit me by your own limitations.
Move to California (planning it)
Work for Apple (check!)
Go to college (almost done!)
Do graphic design work (maybe a t-shirt company)
Do film stuff! (Video recording/editing)
Make music
Make enough money to live in a nice apartment
Get dual citizenship in Canada
Get married
While this list isn't in any order, these are my lifetime dreams. Laugh all you want, but the most successful people were laughed at at one point in time.
If you have dreams, fulfill them. If someone tells you that you can't do something, that means that you're heading in the right direction.
